In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling hills, lived a shepherd boy. His life was untarnished, simple, and honest. His primary duty was mainly to look after his herd of rams.

Their low murmuring and the murmuring of here the gales across the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main co-dwellers. Day after day, looking out for his wards inculcated in him a sense of tranquil contentment.

Yet, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. In one such instance out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome scheme.

Stories of wolves prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One morning he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.

The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This trick continued for a few more days. But, one morning, a real wolf did come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
